NEBTA Holiday Party: What A Way to End 2008 - And Begin 2009

Posted: February 10, 2009

NEBTA closed 2008 with a highly successful event held at the Liberty Hotel. Great venue, great food and great friends - how can you go wrong? The event raised money for the Alex Battikha Scholarship Fund and an overwhelming collection for donation to the Toys for Tots charity program. We would like to thank all of our members, guests, friends and sponsors (with a special nod to American Airlines and One World for their generous sponsorship and donations) for allowing us to close out 2008 with such a great event.
The Alex Battikha Scholarship Fund exist to assist our members in improving their careers. Each year at the annual Holiday Party, the Association holds a silent auction, and gives the proceeds to the Alex Battikha Memorial Scholarship Fund, which supports the travel education pursuits of many NEBTA members and deserving students in our community who are studying to enter the travel and hospitality field. Each year, the auction has raised more than $10,000 — all thanks to the many Allied and Direct members who contribute auction items including fantastic trips, hotel stays, sporting event tickets, company products and even handicrafts.
For more information on how the Scholarship Fund can be used, please visit the Education section of the NEBTA web site (http://www.nebta.org/index.cfm?scid=1492) or contact Scholarship Chair Rick Como (rcomo@colpittswt.com).
To preach on economic uncertainty or the major changes in the travel industry would be repetitive. It is at times like this that organizations such as NEBTA strive to provide it members with positive information and events and focus on how to adapt to the ever-changing travel landscape. 2009 will be a challenging year to say the least, but we in New England have experienced challenges before and we will get through this one together. Remember, NEBTA isn't just a $260/year expense report line item - it is an opportunity to work closely with those in our industry and to constantly learn way to better ourselves both personally and professionally. In the coming months, NEBTA will be providing great events such as, "Planes, Trains and Buses - Easy Cost Travel Options", and a panel on "Adaption in a Non-Mandated Environment". It is our goal to provide you with informative and timely information.
We have also been listening - after each of the past several meetings we have been sending out survey's in order to gain your feedback on each event. And we're listening. We are focusing our new events around your requests and will be providing information on parking availability and other helpful hints you are asking for. Keep telling us what you think/want/need and we'll deliver.
